About Värmeforsk

Värmeforsk (Thermal Engineering Research Association) is an association for the energy, process and manufacturing industries, including the forestry industry and energy consulting firms. Our primary goal is to solve problems related to heat and power production. The applied research and the basic technical development at Värmeforsk are financed jointly by industry and the state through the Swedish Energy Agency. Värmeforsk was founded in 1968 and at the present time has approximately 100 on-going R&D projects.

Värmeforsk is an administrator of research projects, and has no research staff or laboratories of its own. This provides the freedom to assign each research project to the institution/organisation that is most suited to the topic in question. Värmeforsk acts as the co-ordinator of existing networks in Sweden and has a well-developed governance structure with the capability to involve the participant organisations at an appropriate level.

The overall objectives during the programme period 2008-2011 are

* Development and dissemination of knowledge

* Generating benefits for owners and partners by:

- Increasing level of knowledge
- Making existing plants more efficient
- Proposing appropriate future investment
- Solving problems

* Adapting research and development to:

- Market requirements and legislation
- New fuels
- Production shift
- Small plants
- EU-directives

* Acting as a network in the industry
